🐾 PARASITES IN DOGS
Parasites are not just a nuisance. Both external and internal parasites can cause health problems for dogs and also pose a risk to other dogs in a group, as well as ❗️humans❗️
🕷 External parasites – ticks, fleas, mites. Ticks can transmit diseases such as Lyme disease, anaplasmosis, or babesiosis, which may lead to long-term health issues. Fleas often cause severe itching, skin inflammation, and allergies. 👉 Most common protection: tablets (Bravecto, Simparica, NexGard), collars (Foresto), spot-on treatments (Advantix, Frontline). ⏱ Protection usually lasts 1–3 months (collars last longer, depending on the manufacturer).
🪱 Internal parasites – worms, roundworms, tapeworms, or flukes can cause diarrhea, weight loss, vomiting, or weakened immunity. Some parasites can also be transmitted to humans.
👉 Deworming medications: Drontal, Milbemax, Caniverm. 📅 Adult dogs are recommended to be dewormed every 3 months, puppies and dogs on a raw diet (BARF) more frequently.
🔬 Don’t want to deworm “blindly”?
An alternative is a fecal (coprological) test, which can detect internal parasites even in dogs without symptoms. This allows deworming to be targeted only when necessary. Coprology is especially useful for dogs in a group or as a supplement to regular deworming.
📅 Recommended 1–2× per year.
💡 Why is prevention important in dog daycare ✔️ Protects your dog’s health✔️ Reduces the risk of transmission between dogs ✔️ Helps maintain a safe and comfortable environment for all 🐶
We kindly ask dog owners to ensure their pets are regularly protected against parasites. Thank you for looking out for the health of the whole pack 🐾
